May21 Project: Day 10

May 30th, Day 10.
Spent this weekend working in the yard and working on my sail boats. I also helped a friend start packing their house. They have to be out mid June, and have a long way to go. They have to move and are thinking of moving to a more fortified compound down in Los Banos. Maybe not a bad idea.

The power and water has stayed on, and it’s almost as if nothing has happened. Except that it did.

The European Stock market continued to fall Friday, and while the US market was closed for Memorial Day, the European was open for a while. It kept falling and they suspended trading. I think a big crash is coming. There have continued to be more food riots in Europe. The Middle East continues to get worse with Syria and Israel making threats.

In Rome, there has been crowds gathering in St Peters square, and the Pope said he would make an announcement in the next few days.

The crazy weather has settled down and there have not been any more earthquakes… but now there has been some reports of a new flu going around.

Like I said, with every one still trying to understand what happened on May 21, and what it means to have been left behind… I think this is just a short calm before a bad storm.

Be safe folks.

May21 Project: Day 6

It’s May 26, it’s been 5 days. Good news/Bad news. I have finally been able to get a hold of Chris. He let us know that he had been up to my Mom and Dads, and they are doing fine. I have also got email or seen posts from all my Brothers and Sisters. They also seem to be getting through this. Cindy’s Mom also posted that they were safe from the Tornado… they were in Tulsa this last week.

I decided to buy Gas every time I get lower than ¾. Not even waiting till 1/2. This way I always have an almost full tank in the car. There is no telling when credit cards are going to stop working. And it looks like that is where we are headed. The European Stock market is crashing, and in Greece, and Portugal they have started having food riots. The US stock market is not much better.

I plan on buying more canned food today. I did buy a small generator yesterday, and two 5 Gal gas cans which I filled up on the way home from work. Is it wrong to keep using my credit card? I have mixed feelings, on one hand this all may blow over and stabilize, and I’ll just have to pay, on the other, which is where I think we are going, the banking system is going to fail, and I won’t have to pay it back…

I did swing by the Gilroy Wal-Mart and bought up all the Ammo I could.357, 38, 223, 12 and 20 gauge. I even bought calibers for guns I don’t have… You can always trade 30.06 and 30.30s for stuff.

I’m headed to work again today. If getting interesting. In some cases it’s like nothing happened, and I’m making progress on future product planning and in others, I can’t make any progress at all. It’s getting harder and harder to get email and phone calls through to Asia and Europe. If this keeps up, and with all the rolling power outages, it’s almost not worth it to drive in to work.

Folks! Start buying up food and supplies. You should have already had a 72 hour kit and 3 months of food stored… if you don’t even have that you better get some. Before May 21, I would have said to just buy 5-10 cans of extra stuff every time you went to the store. That way before long you would have built up a 2-3 month stock of food that you already eat…

But now, I think you should max out your credit cards and buy whatever you can. I’m already seeing stores looking bare, and if they stop getting shipments… well you get the picture. Make sure you stock up an emergency pantry full of canned food.

Be Smart.

May21 Project: Day 3

It’s Day 3 – the evening of May 23. I went to church Sunday, and it was different. We had a special meeting with 5 other congregations. Everyone was thinking about it, but no one was saying what they thought… “Maybe we got left behind”. Even so, I felt like there were a lot of people that normally would be there, and just were not.

The power seemed to stay on all day Sunday and most of Monday, so maybe we are past the worst of it. It was weird getting up for work. I was not sure what to expect. It started out eerie, because there was not a lot of traffic on the road. I was able to buy gas, so it seems the banks and Credit card companies are still up and running, so they must all still be here.

What is really freaking me out is all the destructive natural phenomena. The Iceland Volcano and the Tornadoes in Joplin. CNN was getting reports of crazy weather all over the globe. Flooding in places that it never does, stuff like that.
I still have not been able to get a hold of my son Chris, and I don’t know how Cindy’s or my parents are doing. My sister in law can’t seem to find her boyfriend. It was odd, she did find cloths on the couch as if he had been sitting there and then was just gone. There are lots of reports like that. No one can find Harold Camping or many of his followers. I hate to say it, but I think we were left behind.

I did stop at Costco on the way home and bought about $400 worth of canned food. If I can find one, I may even buy small gas generator. Over the next few days, I’m going to make an inventory of our food supplies. I’m also going to update my 72 hour kit and make sure we have stuff packed so we can ditch at a moment’s notice.

Hopefully tomorrow will be better.

May21 Project: Day 1 (later the same day)

I finally was able to get on line. It’s still May 21, about 10:14 PM. The power has been off most of the day, but now it seems to mostly be back on. Earthquake! It was a 7.6 kind of big, and we have had 4-5 strong aftershocks. From what news I have been able to get, the earth quakes seem to have been worldwide. Some, way worse than here.

Cindy , Jonny, and Danny are fine, but I have not been able to get a hold of Chris. I was hoping to see a status from him on Facebook, but no such luck. Long distance phone and cell service is not working well, and Skype is down. I hope over the next few days that will get back to normal.

Morgan Hill seems to be relatively OK, but weird. There does seem to be folks missing. Some of our neighbors did not answer their door bells, but I don’t know if they were just out, or too scared to open the door.

Over all though, there does not seem to be panicking, like I expected, though the grocery stores seem to be getting emptied. No Looting, but folks are buying up all the food and batteries… and stuff like that. Hopefully we can get some better news on what is happening, tomorrow. I plan to go to church, and see what everyone else knows.

May21 Project: Day 1

Its May 21, 2011 5:47 AM. It's about 1 min to sunrise. We set the alarm to go off just a few minute before sunrise May 21. That is the time that Family Radio Prophet Harold Camping says the Rapture starts and the end of the world begins. I’m not sure what is supposed to happen, but if we don’t get raptured, then I think we are in for some bad times... Fire and Brimstone… Earthquakes and Destruction. People going crazy and looting. Pestilence and Plague. Just in case we are left behind, I have pulled out our 72 hour kits.
